The formula, with your numbers
- Questions the AI answers
- 500 × 70% = 350
- Hours saved
- 350 × 6 min ÷ 60 = 35 h
- Money saved
- 35 h × $25 = $875
- AI messages needed
- 500 × 2 replies = 1,000
- Net saving
- $875 − $8 (Hobby) = $867
How to use the chatbot ROI calculator
The calculator compares the time your team spends answering repeat questions with the price of a chatbot that answers them instead. It runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
- Count your support questions. Add up a month of emails, live chats, contact-form messages and calls that ask something your website could answer. Your help desk or inbox search gives a good estimate. Leave out orders and complaints that need a person.
- Time one answer. Include reading the question, looking up the answer and writing back. Most simple replies take 3 to 10 minutes; technical ones take longer.
- Set your hourly cost. Use wage plus overhead for a support hire. If you answer questions yourself, use what your own hour is worth.
- Pick the share the AI can answer. This is the part of those questions your pages, docs and FAQs already cover. Start at 50% if you don't know yet.
How the numbers are worked out
Questions answered by AI = questions × share. Hours saved = answered questions × minutes ÷ 60. Money saved = hours saved × hourly cost. The calculator then estimates AI messages as questions × 2, because ChatBento plans are metered in AI replies and most questions take an answer plus a follow-up. It picks the smallest plan with enough messages and subtracts its monthly price to give your net saving.
For example, 500 questions a month at 6 minutes each, $25 an hour and a 70% AI share is 350 answered questions, 35 hours and $875 saved. That needs about 1,000 AI messages, which fits Hobby at $8 a month.
Make the estimate more accurate
The biggest lever is the share the AI can answer, and it's mostly in your hands. A chatbot can only answer from what it was trained on, so write down the questions you answer every week and make sure your site or a short FAQ covers them. Our free FAQ generator drafts ten from any page.
The calculator doesn't count softer gains: answers at 3 a.m., visitors who would have left without asking, and leads the chatbot collects when it hands a conversation to you. Treat the result as a floor. Then check it against reality with a 14-day free trial, where the dashboard shows every conversation the bot handled.
Questions. Answered.
How do you calculate chatbot ROI?
Multiply your monthly support questions by the share the AI can answer, then by the minutes each answer takes, and divide by 60 to get hours saved. Multiply the hours by your hourly support cost to get money saved, and subtract the chatbot's monthly price to get the net return.
What share of questions can an AI chatbot answer?
It depends on how much your website, docs and FAQs already explain. Repeated questions about pricing, shipping, setup or opening hours are the easiest. If you're unsure, use 50% and adjust once you see real conversations in your dashboard.
What hourly cost should I use?
Use what an hour of support really costs: wage plus taxes, benefits and tools. If you answer questions yourself, use what your own hour is worth to the business.
Why does the calculator assume two AI messages per question?
ChatBento plans are metered in AI replies. A typical question takes an answer and a follow-up, so the calculator estimates function(){throw Error("Attempted to call REPLIES_PER_QUESTION() from the server but REPLIES_PER_QUESTION is on the client. It's not possible to invoke a client function from the server, it can only be rendered as a Component or passed to props of a Client Component.")} replies per question to pick a plan with enough messages.
